Abuse/Crisis Counselor

I would love to do this job because of all the wonderful aspects it takes to complete it. I like all of the things that you would do in this job such as working with people looking at their physical or emotional problems and dealing with them. I love talking to people and everyone tells me I’m good at it so for these reasons I think I would be good at this job. I also would like other things that this job takes like explaining ideas and information to people, being responsible for peoples well being, asking questions or interviewing people, motivating others, keeping accurate records or reports, being interested in law and coping with uncooperative and difficult people.

To do this job it takes a lot of work and I can do a lot of the things it requires. I can work for long periods of time and short periods of time and I can also work in many different environments. I am a very good speaker and this job takes a lot of time communicating and collaborating with other agencies and people. They need to talk to these other agencies to find things out like what space is available in shelters, to inform the police about forms of abuse and to talk to social service workers to see if the victim is eligible to receive emergency financial assistance. This being so as an abuse and crisis counselor these workers does not just work by themselves they work as a team consisting of others who are in a position to help the victim leave the abusive environment. This is another reason I would be good at this job I am very good at working in teams and I get along with many different kinds of people. Some other reasons I would be good at this job is because I love people and kids and I am very interested in working with the law. Many people at one time are another deal with a hardship in their life that is very difficult to do this. This job lets you help those people and make sure those hard times in their life are easier to get through.

There are many different environments that you could be in depending on where you are working. You could work in hospitals, shelters, schools, colleges, universities and various non-profit organizations. The hours they work vary depending on where the workers are working. Most of them working in government agencies will work a shorter day usually 9am to 5pm. Others who work in a shelter due shift work time and others will work a 24 hour hotline. This may cause the worker to work evenings, overnight, or weekends. If you don’t work on a hotline you may spend a lot of time on a phone anyway because of all the different agencies you have to make phone calls too. This may cause a lot of stress working with these different places and all of these different people. Doing this job would be very rewarding but it would also be very stressful, take a lot of emotional energy and you would have to be able distance yourself from your work at the end of the day.

The environments that you would work in are the same as the businesses that would employ you. These places would consist of hospitals, shelters, schools, colleges, universities and various non-profit groups. These counselors have different wages depending on what type of job they are doing. Generally earnings are between $20,000 and $60,000 a year. The ones who work on a part time bases earn $10 to $28 an hour. Factors effecting income include level of responsibility, education, the geographical, the type of organization and the hour worked in a day. For example, counselors who work in a small agency may only earn $12 to $14 an hour as one who works in a large agency may earn up to $25 a hour. Full time counselors make about $60,000 a year. Apart from the salary that the workers are earning most counselors that work in hospitals or government agencies usually receive health and dental benefits and contributions to retirement plans.

The education requirements for a counselor vary depending on the employer. The employer is more likely to get a job in that field though if they have completed a degree or diploma in the areas such as social services, social work or psychology. Bachelor’s degrees in social work are offered in schools in Canada. Community colleges across the country offer diploma degrees in some social services and other will allow you to apply credits earned in diploma program to a bachelor’s degree in social work. However some employers will hire these graduates of related programs an example, psychology. You also have to complete a counseling certificate program these cover many areas such as domestic violence and crisis intervention. Courses in these programs include family violence and risk assessment. If you would like to become a supervisor are be in a higher paying condition you will most likely need a master’s degree.

Classes you will most likely need to take throughout high school vary depending on the grade. In grade nine you need English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Creative Arts, Health & Physical education, French and Family& Consumer Sciences. In grade ten you need English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Personal & Career Development and Family & Consumer Sciences. In grade nine you need English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Family & Consumer Sciences and Human Services. In grade twelve you need English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Law and Family & Consumer Sciences. As you can see you have to do a lot of the same subjects throughout your teen years to do this job.

The things that you need, earn and do at this job all depend on what level of the job you are at. All of the levels have different needs. In level one you are an intake worker. You make $20,000 to $30,000 a year and you need to have your Bachelor’s Degree or your Diploma in social work a related field. To do this job you also need to be able to complete a lot of things such as interviewing potential clients whether you are on the phone or in person; researching issues and programs; doing limited counseling of clients.

In level two the things that you need, earn and do get harder and there is a lot more. You have no worked your way up to actually being an Abuse/ Crisis Counselor. You now would make $30,000 to $40.00 a year. You are dealing with victims of abuse and it may be very depressing. To complete this level and get up to the highest level you can you have to complete these tasks day after day. Interviewing potential clients on phone and in person; researching issues and programs; counseling clients; supervising other counselors.

When you finally get to the highest level you can this means you are doing good. The highest and last level is three. You are now officially a Senior Abuse/ Crisis Counselor and you make $45,000 to $60,000 a year. You have got all the other education you need and now you are getting the finishing touches like the several years of experiencing dealing with clients and a Master’s of Social Work degree. To do this level you have to do things like interview potential clients on phone and in person; researching issues and programs; counseling clients; supervising other counselors; planning; directing; and evaluating agency’s programs and policies.

A career that is somewhat related to an Abuse/ Crisis Counselor is an Addictions counselor. Both of them are helping people overcome something whether it is drugs, alcohol or abusive relationships and family violence. Both of these counselors work with people so they can overcome a hardship in their life. Usually the counselors only meet with them once a week. In these weeks for a addictions counselor usually they make a twelve step program to lift up the addicts self confidence especially their looks and how they dress. The addictions counselor prepare written notes about the addict and they determine when the client no longer needs counseling. Another thing they do at their jobs is help prevent addictions. They will go around to high schools to teach kids the bad affects and why it is bad to use addictive substances. There are also fields to specialize in. Some addiction counselors work with new clients while others work only in referral services, outpatient counseling, day treatment centers or detoxification programs.

My Science Report-Noise Pollution

My report is on a very serious issue noise pollution. I will tell you what it is and what causes it. Also what are the affects of it and how we can help prevent it. This issue has become more serious over time and we really need to stop it. If stopping it takes one person or whole community it shouldn’t matter. This really shouldn’t be happening and hopefully will stop soon if everyone pitches in.

Noise pollution is a type of energy pollution in which distracting, sounds are freely audible. Noise pollution is not made up of physical particles it is made up of waves that mix with natural occurring- waves of the same environment. There are different types of noise pollution. No matter what causes it, it is considered noise pollution if it affects wild or human life, or if it is damaging physical structures on regular repeating bases. Noise pollution is very displeasing to humans, animals, and any other creatures that live on planet Earth.

There is a wide variety of things that cause noise pollution. The hard things to fix would be the area of the railway and train stations, the construction of building’s, highways and city streets, and the noise of plumbing, boilers, generators, air conditioners and fans. The things that people could fix that are not as noisy but are still a problem are the noise of mixers, vacuums, and other kitchen appliances. There are lots of causes for this problem. Some other ones are the noise of horns and whistles at train stations, machinery, motors, air compressors and low flying military aircrafts.

There are a wide variety of effects from noise pollution. It affects many living things including people, animals and surprisingly plants. It affects animals by causing them stress form not being able to sleep. It can also cause animals death because the noise may interfere with the balance of predator and pray. It affects humans sleep and can also cause hearing loss, hypertension, and tinnitus. Tinnitus is an illness which may lead to forgetfulness. Like I told you before noise pollution can also cause plants harm. It will cause plants harm not from the actual noise but from the vibrating of the noise. As you can see this is a more serious issue then most people think.

Noise pollution is a major problem but could be fixed pretty easily if everyone pitches in. Some things that people could do to help would be to get soundproof doors and windows put in, ride the bus because the noise of all the cars is very loud, and if you live in a place where you can, plant trees around your home. Then there are some things in which people can not fix without a lot of help or they can’t fix at all. These things consist of moving factories and industries off into far places, banning speakers from our society and just simply telling people to be quiet. People can be told to be quiet but that doesn’t mean they will listen. So if people are quiet and they do pitch in to help the government and other people to do these things this problem could be fixed.

In conclusion noise pollution is an environmental affect that is made up of waves that mix with other natural- waves of the same environment. It causes harm to many people, animals, and plants. Some causes of this problem consist of traffic noise, machinery, trains and the construction of buildings. To help this problem people can do many things including putting in soundproof doors and windows, putting trees around your yard and taking the bus.

My Report For Social- Incas

I am doing my report on the history of the Incas. In my report I have information on the costumes and beliefs, their food how they hunted and farmed it, the places they lived, and the climate of that area. I will also tell you what their resources were, what explorer discovered the land they lived on and how being discovered impacted their lives.

The Incas ate many different kinds of food and they didn’t rely on just one. They did have their favorites like everyone, that favorite was potatoes. They used potatoes for every special event and most of the families would eat it at home just on a regular bases. They would harvest most of their food including corn, potatoes, an edible root called oca and a grain known as quinoa. When the crops were done they had to carry them up mountain sides. Since this was extremely hard, almost impossible to do they would cut terraces into the sides of the mountains or hills to help carry up the food. The other food they ate was food that they invented; this food consisted of beef jerky and popcorn. They ate this because it lasted for a long time. The other thing they ate was llama. This is pretty much the only meat they ate besides beef. To hunt these animals they sometimes used a bow and arrow but they mostly relied on the sling and stone.

The Inca people all had very different homes even though they lived in the same place. This place was the Andes Mountains of South Peru. In these mountains they lived in places such as Columbia, Ecuador, Chile and Argentina. The type of homes they ha all depended on their royalty. The royal lived in spacious decorated stone palaces that mostly consisted of two floors. The priests who were considered to be above average also lived in spacious houses but a majority of them did not have two floors in their homes. Then there were the poor who considered average because most of the population of the Incas did not have a lot of money. They built their homes in two ways one being the more common way of building homes for the indigenous people. The common way was using roots, grass, wood and dirt. This was also the easy way to make their homes. The other way was with as boulder. They would cut the boulder so that each house would fit together in a zigzag form. Even though most houses were built like this they still built a wall around the town using this same method so incase of attack not even a knife could fit through the wall.

Incas had many different beliefs and attended many different ceremonies and get togethers. Their ceremonies took place whenever they were called together. In these ceremonies they did different things but all these things revolved around mummies of the dead, gods, temples, holy historical places, springs, stones, and mountain peaks. The gods that the Inca people believed in consisted of the sun god and the god named Virococha who was believed to have created nature. There were also the goddesses that they believed in they included Earth and Sea. When they began these ceremonies they always started with the same things divination, offerings and also important and special events on the calendar. Divination is an attempt to gain knowledge through magic signs. They did this by looking at the study of animal organs and the movement of them, also by looking at the flames of the fire they started. They used divination for all government decisions and also to decide when it is good to plant crops, go to war and what different activities they wanted to do. After all of that they would dance, play games, listen to songs and have parades and feasts.

Sometimes the Incas would have very special ceremonies. In these ceremonies they would make human and animal sacrifices. In a humans case it was an honor to be chosen to be sacrificed. For the animals it was just to keep the good will of the gods. Most of the time the animal that got sacrificed was a llama but they also sacrificed other ones like deer and cow. When these ceremonies took place it was up to the women to prepare the food and also to make the clothes for the royal family, priests and people being sacrificed.

Even though they celebrated a lot of there beliefs in ceremonies they also had a lot of beliefs outside of them. Every house hold had a small statue which they cherished very much. There were also surgeons which would cut away pieces of the skull that belonged to the sick. This was to release out bad and evil spirits. This was one of the many ways people died back then. When important people died they were put above ground in chambers. Others were buried in pits caves and other types of graves. Either at their funeral or just on a regular day the Incas wore clothes made out of wool, cotton, or knitted textiles. They also spoke a language called Quechua; this language is still spoken in places today.

Like I mentioned before the Incas people lived in the mountains of South Peru. In these mountains they lived in parts of Columbia, Ecuador, Chile and Argentina. These places they lived all had different types of weather. The Amazon was very hot and humid it is known as the dry desserts of the West. Columbia and Ecuador are both very tropical but Ecuador can also me wet and humid depending on the part of the year. Chile gets lots of rain and Argentina depending of the type of year goes from extreme heat to pleasantly mild and can become rather cold.

The Incas used as many things as they could off the land. Their main recourse from the land was rock and stone. They used stone for building all shelters, making places to carry up food and making protection like walls incase of an attack. Another huge recourse they had was llama. They killed llama and ate it as meat. Then they used all the bones for spoons, arrows, and also a needle for sewing. They never let any part of the animal go to waste. If they didn’t use an animal for transporting food they would use mountain slopes because it was easy to walk up then. Silver, gold and different types of minerals were used to make jewelry and other decorations. Some other things they used which they got off the land were coco leaves for different drinks like tea, dirt for houses, wool for clothes, and other things like corn, fish and beef for food.

Francisco Pizzaro explored Peru of Southern Americas Central Pacific Coast. He was a Spanish explorer and he came for a few different reasons, the main reason being for conquest. The Spanish had lots of land but they always wanted more. Some other reasons were to take away their religion and make them believe in theirs. They also wanted the Incas wealth, gold, silver and crops. The Inca people had lots of gold and the Spanish wanted it to make them richer. Francisco came in 1532 and left after making all the things he wanted his. He destroyed many things including their culture, religion and the people overall.

When Francisco Pizzaro came he effected and destroyed the lives of many Inca people. The Spanish brought over a few different diseases. These consisted of small pox, Carrions disease, measles, and pneumonia. These diseases killed a lot of the Inca society. Besides the disease they also made other tribes join their culture, killed the Inca Empire, and used their gold and silver to build more cities.

In conclusion the Incas harvested most of their food and hunted their meat. The Incas main diet was potatoes, but they did eat other foods like beef jerky and an edible root called oca and a grain known as quinoa. They lived in many different homes depending on their status within their society. The royalty and priests lived in the nicest homes, while the peasants lived in huts made from boulders, dirt, wood, grass and roots. The Inca people believed in many things which all revolved around mummies of the dead, gods, temples, holy historical places, springs, stones and mountain peaks. They had many ceremonies that always began with divination and on special occasions they would make human and animal sacrifices. The Inca people lived in various parts of the Andes Mountains of South Peru. The climate of where they lived varied from humid, wet, dry, cold and tropical. They used the rocks and stones from their land to build homes and walls in the case of an attack. The Inca people were founded in 1532 by the Spanish explorer Francisco Pizzaro. He came to where the Incas lived for wealth, crops and gold. When he came he brought with him smallpox, Carrion’s disease, pneumonia and measles. The diseases that were brought to the Inca people ended up killing a major part of their population and many more Inca people were forced into the Catholic religion. This led to the extinction of the Inca people.

A Surprise Awaits You

“Can I come for the car ride,” Stacy and Keith begged. “No just me and your dad are going, sorry maybe next time,” their mom said. “Fine,” said Stacy and Keith. Less than a few minutes later their parents left. “What time is it, “Stacy called down from her room. “9:30,” her brother hollered back. “Geez,” Stacy said to herself, “I’m tired.”
Stacy laid down on her bed and eventually dozed off. She woke up to a knock at the door and got to the door the same time as her brother. They opened the door and stared at two expressionless police officers. “Hello Stacy and Keith,” they said in sad voices. “What happened,” Keith said in a worried voice. “We’re really sorry but your parents got in an accident and they both passed away, we are extremely sorry, “said one of the police officers. Stacy and Keith both stood there in shock, and then they started to cry. The police officers started talking again, “You will be in the care of your grandparents and again we are sorry.” Stacy and Keith just sat there crying and listened to the police officers who were still talking, “They will come to pick you up tonight around midnight, so one of us will stay here with you until your grandparents get here.” The other police officer left, while Stacy and Keith got their stuff ready through their tears.
At about midnight their grandparents arrived. When Stacy and Keith saw them they gave them a big hug. The Keith, Stacy and their grandma started to cry and their grandpa just sat there with a very sad look on his face. “We are very sorry,” their grandma said, “Us too,” replied Keith through his tears. They got into their grandparents van and they drove off.
On their way there they made an odd turn off into a forest. “Where are we going,” Stacy asked still sobbing. “We moved to a new house,” their grandma replied, “didn’t you know that. “No we didn’t,” Keith said as he started to tear up again. They stopped in front of an old rickety house. “Is this it,” Stacy questioned. “Yes it is,” said their grandpa. Stacy and Keith got all of their stuff out of the van and brought it into the house. Their grandma and grandpa showed them to their room. “You better get to sleep,” whispered their grandpa, “You had a long day. Their grandparents said goodnight and also went to sleep. “They are acting weird,” Stacy stated. “They are,” Keith agreed. That night Stacy and Keith fell asleep sobbing.
The next morning they woke up to the smell of eggs and bacon. They dragged themselves down the stairs. “Good morning,” Their grandmother delightfully said. “Good morning grandmother,” they forced out lazily, “thanks for breakfast.” After eating they went back upstairs, “was that odd are what,” questioned Stacy. “What how they are not upset about the death,” asked Keith. “Yes,” answered Stacy.
Around twelve o’clock a moving truck came, Stacy, Keith and their grandparents had to haul everything in. “That was hard work,” Stacy said to no one in particular. “Supper will be ready soon,” their grandpa commented as he walked by their room. “Supper,” their grandma called a moment later. They ran down the stairs and ate their supper fast. “What’s the rush?” their grandpa asked. “We are going to the park tonight to play catch before it gets too late,” Keith answered. Right after supper they got their ball gloves and went to play catch. They got back at seven and read for a bit before they went to bed.
When they woke up the next morning it was really quiet. “Why is it so quiet,” questioned Keith. “Let’s go check,” Stacy whispered trying not to break the silence, “You check downstairs and I will check up here. They both went their own ways until Keith called up to Stacy, “I found a note.” “What does it say Stacy asked as she ran down the stairs. “It says they went to a meeting,” Keith answered, “and that they will be back soon. Wow,” exclaimed Stacy, “We get the house to ourselves.”
At that exact moment they heard a loud thump followed by more thumping. “What was that,” stammered Stacy. “I don’t know let’s go check,” Keith replied. “I’m not going up there,” Shrieked Stacy. “Fine I will,” Keith said in an annoyed voice. Keith slowly went up the stairs. “Ahhhh,” he shrieked. Stacy heard Keith and ran up the stairs to see and a horrible brown monster standing there. “Run,” she screamed. They tried running down the stairs but the monster jumped out in front of them. They ran back up and locked themselves in the bathroom. The monster banged on the door. “Jump out the window,” Stacy shrieked. “I can’t it is too high up,” Keith shouted back. They ran out of the bathroom and the monster was gone. They took that opportunity and ran out of the house. “We have to warn grandma and grandpa,” Stacy said through breathes as she ran. At that exact moment all the monster came out from the trees. “Were cornered Keith screamed. They were eventually taken over by blackness.
